From Walt Disney World, to Europe’s greatest orchestra - the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - to performing with one of America’s leading ensembles, The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, John William Banther is in high demand as a musician and educator and is also a Weekend Host on Classical WETA 90.9 Washington, one of the nation’s top classical stations.
John has performed as a soloist throughout the United States, Europe, and South America, and with Grammy award winning artists and orchestras like Delfeayo Marsalis, Larnelle Harris, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, Florida Orchestra, Brevard Symphony, Holland Symfonia and the Ebony Band among many others.
As an educator, John has a private studio in the DC area with students that consistently place in the top ensembles, all county and all state bands. John has presented masterclasses at the George Mason University, the University of South Florida, Projecto Guri in Brazil, and public schools throughout the United States.
John is the tuba player and operations manager of the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, and a former member of the Amsterdam Brass Quintet and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet.
John graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, studying with Mike Roylance, and the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Netherlands, studying with Perry Hoogendijk. John is also the founder of The Story Behind The Music, and with studies focused on Social Media has streamed concerts to thousands of people worldwide from the New England Conservatory, Boston University, and his solo concert with singer/song-writer Kat Vipers at the Amsterdam Blue Note.
